The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager Airfield Services is responsible for the supervision of Airside staff and the completion of maintenance activities associated with the Airside area of the WAA campus during the winter season. These activities include, but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities include:
  • Conduct field checks on runways, taxis and aprons and communicate with the tower and airport users regarding current airfield condition and runway friction index reports;
  • Authorize and control operators overtime and leave, coordinate and participate in all job assignments by providing extra help when short staffed;
  • Coordinate and monitor snow removal contract work for tenant;
  • Maintain, repair and monitor aircraft operating surfaces, security fencing, gates, and airport road systems;
  • Manages wildlife issues, use of firearms safe manner;
  • Provides escort to outside agencies that require access to the airfield;
  • Provide guidance for operators and training for new employees.
  • Provide input and advice to managers regarding aspects of airfield maintenance.
  • Authorize equipment and material use;
  • Provide support for airport emergencies Initial contact for NOTAMS process.
Selection Criteria include:
  • Secondary School education;
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in Airside Maintenance or related field;
  • Management / Supervisory training and experience;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • D AVOP License and Restricted Radio Operators License;
  • Class 3 License with Air Brake Endorsement;
  • Knowledge of TP-312 and wildlife control, and a valid PAL;
  • Knowledge of WAA Safety Management System;
  • Advanced knowledge of airport maintenance;
  • Fork lift operator’s license required in Manitoba by Provincial Government;
  • Organized and detail oriented with strong time management skills,
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Experience with Maximo and Q-Pulse and software is an asset;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products;
  • Knowledge of the collective agreement.
Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card.
