Chief Pilot Flight Technical
Basic Purpose of Position:
The Chief Pilot, Fight Technical manages the aircraft fleet requirements for Jazz and the operating procedures relative to each fleet type. This position manages the Chief Pilots on each fleet type and the aircraft technical documentation within the flight operations department.
Key Activities:
- Manage the Flight Technical department consisting of Fleet Chief Pilots and a Technical Writer.
- Ensure aircraft performance capabilities are suitable for current and planned operations at Jazz.
- Liaise with Transport Canada and Aircraft manufacturers regarding aircraft certification issues and aircraft operating documents including;
- Minimum Equipment List (MEL)
- Aircraft Operating Manuals (AOM)
- Aircraft Performance manuals
- Quick Reference Handbooks (QRH)
- Flight deck reference material
- Electronic Flight Bag program (EFB)
- Fuel Policy
- Icing Operations
- Manage working groups for Technical Dispatch and Minimum Equipment List.
- Monitor Transport Canada (TC) publications including;
- Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS),
- Commercial Air Service Standards (CASS)
- Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL)
- Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM),
- Transportation Safety Board releases (TSB)
- etc. to ensure compliance.
- Monitor FAA publications to ensure compliance.
- Produce and distribute Flight Ops memos and Aircraft Operating Manual Notices.
- Work with Maintenance concerning the introduction of new technological equipment.
- Maintain competency, technical knowledge and skills that demonstrate a high level of professional standard for a senior pilot manager.
- Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers.
- Act as liaison with NavCanada and participate in various working groups.
- Liaise with Chief Pilot, Training on type specific issues.
- Communicate with Base Chief Pilots, Manager of SMS safety Reporting and Corporate Communications on aircraft type specific issues.
- Liaise with SOC and Flight Dispatch regarding airports, routes, aircraft performance, etc.
- Liaise with Manager, Regulatory Affairs on Company Operations Manual (COM) language and regulatory issues.
- Organize new aircraft acquisitions, test flights and ferry flights.
- Participate in various internal and external working groups including Flight Safety, Regional Airline Association, national Airline Council of Canada.
- Provide technical support for IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification and compliance and other audits.
- Respond to line pilots on technical issues.
- Report to Director, Flight Operations, any pertinent technical or regulatory issues.
- Jointly responsible for the development of the Company Ground Icing Program. This responsibility is shared with the Manager, Aircraft Services.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.
Qualifications:
- Must have strong communication and leadership skills.
- Strong planning & organization skills.
- Must have a solid ability to delegate while maintaining overall control and direction.
- Must be able to cope with high stress tolerance.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
- Must have 5 years of work experience in the airline industry.
- Preference for applicants with previous aviation management experience or flight training experience.
- Must have an Airline Transport Pilot License.
- Preference to candidates with an Aviation Management Degree or Diploma.
