In anticipation of a service contract award at Toronto Pearson International Airport, we are seeking to immediately fill the following positions, for a contract start date of June 1, 2017:
Purpose:
Reporting to Manager, Service Delivery (SDM), the Baggage Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day staffing and direct oversight of a team of four baggage handlers assigned to work each shift. The Supervisor is expected to be a working member of the team.
Core Duties:
- Schedule Baggage Handler to ensure 4 staff on duty for each shift. Approve breaks and authorized leave; report employee/team performance to SDM; arrange/provide suitable training to employees (new, recurring, On-the-Job)
- Assist Baggage Handlers by performing same duties, as required
- Successfully resolve issues reported by employees and request support from SDM as required
- Build rapport with team members
- Demonstrate and ingrain safe, correct work practices and excellent customer service in employees.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships; work cooperatively with the Greater Toronto Airport Authority and other parties at Toronto Pearson as required.
- Comply with all airport authority and air carrier security requirements
- Other duties as required,
Qualifications
- Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) holders are preferred.
- Ability to supervise and organize a small team of employees.
- Ability to work safely and fully engage in a culture of safety and customer service.
- Available for shift work hours, including weekends (sample shifts: 4 am to 2 pm, 2 pm to midnight)
- Ability to lift heavy objects unaided and repetitively weighing up to 70 pounds (32 kilograms)
- Canadian citizen or have landed immigrant status. Pass security clearance and obtain the Transport Canada Security Card.
- Obtain baggage tug vehicle operator’s licence (AVOP) within first 3 months of employment
- Ability to lift heavy objects unaided and repetitively weighing up to 70 pounds (32 kilograms). Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours. Ability to adjust to very busy and very slow periods during work shift.
