BCGA Awards & Scholarships
(2017 Application Deadline June 30th)
1. Erissa Yong BCGA Bursary $1000
Awarded to an individual who has demonstrated dedication toward furthering
general aviation safety or who has made a difference in the general aviation
community.
Purpose
This bursary is to be used to advance the qualifications or skills of
the recipient in any aviation field. The
winner will be selected by the BCGA board of directors. This scholarship is not limited to pilots and
is open to those who are in aviation for personal pleasure or working toward a
career in the field.
Basic Criteria:

Nominated by a BCGA member. Additional
consideration will be given to nominees who have been BC General Aviation
Association members for at least one year prior to their nomination. Nominees
should become BCGA members upon nomination (membership is free).

Paragraph (200 - 400 words) written by the
nominator about the nominee and why they deserve the bursary
·
Short essay (500 - 1000 words) A statement from
the nominee should also be included indicating why he/she should receive the
award and outlining personal achievements, goals and what the bursary will be
used for.
·
In the case that the application is for flight
training the nominee should have already completed their first solo.
·
In the case that the application is for aircraft
maintenance training, the nominee should have already completed at least one
semester of post-secondary aircraft maintenance training.
2. Sparky Imeson Memorial BCGA
Bursary $1000
Awarded to a pilot who has demonstrated dedication toward furthering
general aviation safety or has made a difference in the general aviation
community.
Purpose
This bursary is awarded to a pilot for the purpose of obtaining
training to become more proficient in mountain or off airport flying. It has
been donated in memory of Sparky Imeson who authored books such as the Mountain
Flying Bible and Taildragger Tactics. Sparky Imeson dedicated his life to
teachingpilots to fly safely in the mountains and was a close friend of BCGA
member and bursary donor Erissa Yong. Sparky gave a seminar on the topic at SFU
in 2004. The winner will be selected by the BCGA board of directors.

3. Onkarbir Singh Toor Memorial
BCGA Scholarship $1000
Awarded to a pilot or student pilot who has overcome adversity in his
or her life.
Purpose
This award is to recognize the perseverance of a pilot or student pilot
that has overcome adversity. The scholarship is to be used to further the recipient’s
aviation education or flight training towards basic or advanced licenses or
ratings.
Basic Criteria:

Nominated by a BCGA member. Additional
consideration will be given to nominees that have been BC General Aviation
Association members for at least one year prior to their nomination. Nominees
should become BCGA members upon nomination (membership is free).

Paragraph (200 - 400 words) written by the
nominator about the nominee and why they deserve the bursary
·
Short essay (500 - 1000 words) A statement from
the nominee explaining how they overcame adversity in life.
·
The nominee shall have completed at a minimum
their first solo flight.

(Note: The person making the nomination must be a BCGA Member)
Submit your nomination to info@bcaviation.ca. In the subject line
insert the name of the award being applied for.
