The J.A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport, a not-for-profit organization operating a small regional Airport in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, is accepting applications from qualified individuals interested in working as part of the Airport Management Team as the Manager of Operations.
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Responsibilities:
- Planning and managing the normal 24 hour day-to-day airport operations including but not limited to:
- Managing the Maintenance Department activities by providing managerial and technical leadership to the unionized maintenance staff.
- Developing and implementing shift schedules, work plans, preventative maintenance programs and performing annual staff performance reviews.
- Managing the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Program (ARFF).
- Developing, implementing and monitoring processes and procedures to ensure the integrity of the airport operation and to meet regulatory requirements.
Managing the Safety Management System (SMS), the Airport Training Program, and regulatory compliance. Requires familiarity with Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARS), documenting investigations, writing reports, completing risk assessments, developing, monitoring and documenting corrective action plans, writing procedures and updating manuals to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Responding to emergency or operational issues.
Qualifications:
- 5 years Airport or Airline Operations Management Experience, Post-Secondary Education at the University or College level, or Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) certification. Airport experience considered a distinct asset.
- Experience managing in a unionized environment.
- Excellent computer administration skills required including the ability to manage, analyze and interpret electronic data, must demonstrate proficiency with Outlook email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint programs.
- Ability to write detailed accurate reports, including operational and safety procedures and develop detailed spreadsheets.
- Experience within an airport/airline environment and familiarity with Safety Management Systems, and Civil Aviation Regulations is required.
- Ability to complete work independently within a small organizational structure, organize and complete multiple tasks, meet strict deadlines and regulatory requirements while also working collaboratively as part of the Management Team.
- A highly motivated and engaged team player who is very organized, detail and task oriented, and diligent with an excellent work ethic.
Police records check and a valid driver’s license are required. Candidate must meet Sydney Airport security requirements.
