BC Aviation Council Announces Award Winners and highlights industry leaders' achievements and supports those who dream of a career in aviation
At the annual
Silver Wings Awards on October 26, the British Columbia Aviation Council (BCAC)
will honor and highlight the many achievements of its members, industry leaders
and the youth who benefit from the $23,500 awarded in scholarships this year.
“At BCAC, we believe aviation is at the very heart and soul of our province,”
said BCAC Chairman, Heather Bell. “It is so important to recognize and honor
those who are leading the way and contributing to the development of aviation
and aerospace in B.C.” BCAC’s premier event, the Silver Wings Awards, will take
place on Wednesday, October 26 at Vancouver Convention Centre West, 1055 Canada
Place, beginning at 6 p.m.
About the winners:
· Entrepreneur of the Year in Aviation: Ken Norie, President and CEO of the Vancouver Island Helicopters (VIH) Aviation Group of Companies, for showing effective entrepreneurial leadership that has grown VIH and its other subsidiary companies to prosper into one of the largest helicopter maintenance and operations enterprises in the world.
· BCAC Environmental Award in Aviation: Prince Rupert Airport, for implementation of a ground breaking sustainability project – The Rainwater Harvesting Project.
· Back and Bevington Air Safety Award: Darlene George and Simon Dennis, Nav Canada, Victoria Tower, for development of the PrepAIR seminars with the concept of information exchange to foster better relations and improve safety.
· Robert S. Day Award: Villi Douglas, Port Hardy Airport, for his outstanding contribution, leadership and dedication to the regional air transportation system.
· William Templeton Award: Port McNeill Airport, for commitment to growth and development to better serve its community.
· Lifetime Achievement: Terry Jones, Operations Manager, Advantage Helicopters, for his outstanding commitment and contributions to the development of the aviation industry.
· Lifetime Achievement: Danny Sitnam, President, Helijet International Inc., for visionary leadership in building one of Canada’s premier airlines offering B.C.’s travelling public a first class service with the highest of safety standards.
