BCIT Student Association Career Services Update

BCIT Student Association Career Services is please to share this wonderful opportunity to with students and graduates of BCIT:

Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is the national, voluntary membership organization representing publicly supported colleges, institutes, cegeps and polytechnics in Canada and internationally. This is an excellent opportunity for employers, alumni, recent and soon to be graduates.

CICan’s new Career-Launcher Internship program connects employers with skilled grads by providing up to $15,000 towards an intern’s salary. Career-Launcher Internships provide access to two different program streams focused on the green economy:  Clean Tech Internships, which CICan has been offering since 2015, and Natural Resources Internships. Both programs are funded by the Government of Canada as part of the Youth Employment Strategy.

Please access the Career-Launcher Internship website for more information.

Eligible employers must have an established payroll system and a process for supervising and mentoring interns, and be in one of the following categories:

  • Small- or medium-sized enterprises (SME), corporations or industry associations
  • Post-secondary education institutions
  • Non-government organizations (NGO) or not-for-profit organizations
  • Indigenous organizations or associations
  • Municipal and local governments
  • Provincial or territorial governments, institutions, agencies or Crown corporations
Soon-to-be and recent graduates can apply to the internships posted on the Career-Launcher website, or can provide the program information to prospective employers.  Graduates must meet the following criteria:
  • A graduate from a post-secondary program;
  • No more than 30 years of age at the start of the internship;
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person granted refugee status in Canada;
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial and Canadian legislation and regulations;
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship; and
  • Available to work for at least six months
CICan has now placed more than 275 graduates in internships across Canada, with compelling results:
  • More than 75% of those who have completed their placement are now either employed in their field or continuing their education.
  • More than 95% of interns and employers recommend participating in the program. I encourage you to read a few of the program’s many success stories.

Sincerely,
