THE TEAM
The Retail and Commercial Development team is responsible with leading and developing the commercial landscape at YYC. This means looking for creative new concepts to deliver the best shopping and service options at one of Canada’s busiest airports. A diverse group with a passion for delivering on the customer needs, this team is at the forefront of commercial trends, and is focused on building a holistic customer experience. In transition, YYC Retail and Commercial team are now forging a new path for the Domestic Terminal Buildings after delivering its retail program for the International Terminal Buildings in 2016.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Manager, Commercial & Retail Development will help shape our retail landscape, develop our retail footprint, and forge new partnerships, as well as develop existing ones in order to improve the customer experience at YYC.

Reporting to the Director, Commercial & Retail Properties this position is responsible for the following:
  • Develop new retail, food & beverage and service partnerships to better satisfy customer demands and expectations while trying to ensure such new opportunities will generate enhanced revenue flows for the airport, with the potential for additional revenue growth
  • Understand and analyze retail sales pro-formas to ensure profitability in order to determine maximum rent threshold and sustainability in the airport market
  • Negotiate and complete leases, lease renewals and lease amending agreements, while coordinating with various cross-functional stakeholders, including legal, infrastructure and others
  • Liaise with and between all airport commercial partners, including retail tenants, airline carriers, airline maintenance and related aviation businesses as it relates to concerns regarding their business, airport policies and procedures, to ensure tenants adhere to Agreement terms and conditions
  • Review and approve tenant development projects, proactively managing solutions to issues arising that will result in a win/win situation for YYC and our partners
  • Ensure partners build and maintain a high standard of customer service for all passengers and guests to the airport through continuous improvement
  • Liaise with contractors, cross-functional team members and partners on relocation and construction, and reconstruction of tenant spaces impacted in the redevelopment and expansion of the air terminal building
  • Actively participate, facilitate and conduct internal and external meetings as required
  • Consult with internal/external partners including daily consultation and joint
decision making
  • In collaboration with cross-functional teams, plan, develop, organize, lead and execute retail promotional programs and business development
  • Other tasks as required
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Experience in sales or marketing of real estate development, leasing, hospitality, consumer goods, or retail business development
  • 7+ years business building experience with post-secondary education with a preference for a degree in business or hospitality.
  • Successful track record in developing consumer based businesses or brands
  • Strong knowledge and experience managing multiple partners and competing priorities
  • Strong business acumen, including budget management, analysis and forecasting capabilities used to evaluate the business and make recommendations for changes
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously and ensure that the goals for each are met
  • Superior ability to handle multiple demands, cope with changing client needs and thrives in a busy work environment
  • A team player, able to work cross-functionally and balance the interests of YYC with its partners
  • Consumer focused, with a mindset of always ensuring decisions are made with the consumer in mind
  • Knowledge of contracts, leases, marketing of properties, leases development or landlord/tenant relations
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
