Reporting to the Director, Flight Dispatch, the Manager, Weight and Balance is responsible for the management and planning of the Weight & Balance Department including budgets, training, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and overall operational compliance with regulatory and company policies. This position will also be responsible for liaising with other branches on projects related to Weight & Balance load planning and Airport Loading/Reporting functions.
- Responsible for the establishment and implementation of performance targets and audit control mechanisms to measure organizational effectiveness and success.
- Responsible to direct the development and implementation of process re-design and change management protocols to ensure seamless transition to new business technology platforms.
- Champion teamwork, leadership, and professional SOC values in the workplace.
- Responsible for branch business continuity planning and Emergency Response procedures.
- Responsible for day to day Weight & Balance System Operations. Provide technical support and leadership to the Weight & Balance team.
- Deploy SmartLoad in day-to-day operations in conjunction with processes and procedures laid out in Load Control Publications.
- Manage and sustain an aggressive business forward-looking plan with achievable efficiency objectives and process improvements. Promote organizational change management applying new business methodologies.
- Initiate, design and sponsor structured projects to streamline business processes, promote new efficiencies, and facilitate improved Customer Service delivery within Weight & Balance.
- Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with local IAMAW shop committee representatives.
- Responsible to negotiate Load services with Contract Carriers, including contract and training set up.
- Responsible to ensure all standards and training requirements are effectively maintained, and Safety Aspects are not compromised.
- Responsible for investigation and follow up of all Weight & Balance related Category investigations
Qualifications
- Experience as a Load Agent with Air Canada or another large carrier is an asset
- In depth knowledge of weight and balance on all Air Canada aircraft
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement action plans that achieve objectives
- Focused on continuous improvement, must be creative and innovative
- Strong analytical and technical skills
- Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Thorough understanding of the IAMAW Collective Agreement
- Demonstrated strong business acumen and networking skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to create and achieve a vision
- Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and ability to manage multiple priorities in support of the achievement of objectives
- Exceptional knowledge of common business administration systems including MS Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- University degree an asset
