The TAC Baggage Manager is responsible for ensuring our people are supported in safely meeting our baggage related operational goals and delivering a remarkable guest/employee experience. They are a mentor and a role model that lives and supports the WestJet culture and values at all times.

Description:
  • Daily management of the Bag-room Operation, BDS performance and Airside Baggage Ratio with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate meetings with the Tools team, Bag-room Crew Chiefs and Connection Runners Crew Chiefs.
  • Participation in projects related to operational improvements as requested with a focus on change management.
  • Provide strong and effective leadership for the team to maximize safety and service at the lowest reasonable cost.
  • Ensure regular briefings occur with your operations team, outlining the challenges and opportunities and participate when possible.
  • Ensure Operational Changes/Advisories are communicated to agents in a timely manner.
  • Daily Documentation of the operation as required.
  • Complete Incident/Accident investigations and AQD reports in accordance with WestJet and Airports procedures with support from the TAC Support Managers and the Daily Shift Managers.
  • Complete Quarterly and Annual Reviews on TAC Crew Chief group including feedback and mentoring opportunities.
  • Oversee the movement of all WestJet’s Guests Baggage in the operation. Ensuring Baggage is being handled with CARE and being transported safely and in a timely manner.
  • Daily Management of the Tools Admin Team; supporting their daily operations, shipping and receiving, approval of purchases for ATW and BTW operations. Meeting monthly with the team for open discussions on Team and Operational support. Quarterly Chats followed up with Annual Reviews with this team.
  • Working with Bagroom, CNX Runners and Tools teams to provide operational support of GSE and equipment to help predict future needs of the operations. Providing information to the TAC Operations Manager for future budget planning of the TAC Operations.
  • Communicate process failures/flaws and facility related issues to the TAC Operations Manager & Ramp Manager, working to facilitate effective solutions.
  • Demonstrate servant leadership through effective and ongoing communication, support and problem solving, with a focus on employee engagement
  • Advance planning and communication for the following shift/day with the Workforce Coordinators as needed.
  • Enforce uniform guidelines.
  • Ensure regulatory L&D Courses are completed.
Relationships:
  • Constant communication with TAC Agents, Daily Shift Managers, Daily Duty Coordinators, Crew Chiefs, and any other members of the YYC station support team regarding operations to ensure best practices are in place and executed daily.
  • Continual feedback loop with Bag-room Crew Chiefs and Connection Running Crew Chiefs by providing coaching and leadership/mentorship.
  • Ongoing communication with the Duty Managers, Daily Shift Managers, TAC Operations Manager, Baggage Services Manager and Ramp Managers for process issues, ideas and scheduling concerns.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with external teams including members of the Calgary Airport Authority and other external companies and agencies.
Qualifications:
  • 3 years airline operations experience required.
  • 2 years leadership experience required.
  • Knowledge of the YYC Baggage Management System.
  • Ground operations experience required
  • Excellent personal on time performance
  • Outstanding people skills
  • Proven track record in leading by example
  • Proven history of effecting change through influence
  • Excellent ability to multitask & handle changing priorities under extreme pressure
  • Proficient in PC based applications, Word, Excel and Outlook
