We have a permanent, full-time opportunity for a Senior Environmental Specialist in the Environment Department. Reporting to the Manager, Environment, the successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team who is passionate about creating environmental change and is looking for an opportunity to work on interesting and varied environmental projects.


The results of this competition may be applied to any Senior Environmental Specialist positions that become available within two months of the posting date of this position.  If no additional vacancies arise within the Senior Environmental Specialist classification within this time frame, future vacancies will be posted accordingly.
Key responsibilities include:
The successful candidate will use a unique combination of exceptional people skills and analytical ability to lead and contribute to program areas including, but not limited to:

  • Environmental auditing and assessment
  • Hazardous materials, waste, energy and water management
  • Environmental conservation & reduction strategies
  • Environmental training and awareness
  • Sustainability
  • University degree (master’s preferred) in Science, Environmental Studies, Engineering or a related field
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience working within a similar environmental context at a senior specialist level
  • Professional designation in an environmental field (such as RP.Bio, P.Eng, P.Geo, P.Ag or MCIP/RPP)
  • Exceptional organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Sound judgment and ability to make quick decisions
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, provincial and local environmental legislation
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in an environmental management setting
  • Experience in the delivery of projects on time and on budget, managing consultants, and liaising with industry, government officials and the public
  • Advanced computer skills

The successful candidate will develop and implement programs, as well as, manage budgets, projects and consultants.  He or she will also monitor, evaluate, improve and communicate the programs goals and results, all while working with airport employees and community representatives.
