Senior Advisor, External Relations

About the job
Reporting to the General Manager, Communications, the Senior Advisor, External Relations is responsible for developing and implementing media relations, social media and outreach strategies to positively position CATSA with external audiences, as well as acting as CATSA’s official spokesperson.
The incumbent’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to maintaining and strengthening CATSA’s reputation by projecting a positive image of the organization through proactive communications with media, stakeholders and the public. . This position is ideal for an outgoing team player who enjoys a challenge, thrives in a fast-paced environment and achieves success through collaboration.

What you need to succeed
To qualify for the position, you must have:
  • Graduation from a recognized university with specialization in Communications, Journalism or another specialty relevant to the duties of the position;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience developing collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in media relations, acting as official media spokesperson and executing effective news media campaigns, including development of media strategies, media lines, news releases, backgrounders, and Qs & As;
  • Experience providing strategic advice to senior officials on diverse, complex issues and initiatives;
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian and international media industry;
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, practices and techniques of research and analysis, including media monitoring and environmental scanning;
  • Strong understanding of communications principles, tools and best practices, particularly involving media relations, social media and issues/crisis management;
  • Experience developing, planning and coordinating strategic and tactical communications initiatives and events;
  • Strong knowledge of digital culture, trends and platforms, as well as emerging trends, best practices and innovations;
  • Experience writing social media strategies and content, targeting communications to specific audiences and adapting content to various channels.
