WHAT YOU WILL DO
Your ability to build relationships and establish trust with numerous stakeholders will contribute to your success as our Manager, Contractor Safety. Your passion for, and expertise with, contractor safety management will enhance our existing program and bring value to our safety culture.
Reporting to our Director, Compliance and Safety, you will oversee contractor safety for contractors working at the Calgary International Airport. You will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to eliminate or reduce any impacts that contractor safety could have on workplace health and safety, airport security, public safety and emergency preparedness. Your primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Develop and implement a functional and effective Contractor Safety program for the Calgary Airport Authority.
  • Implement and oversee the contractor safety program by enabling contractors to appropriately protect all airport users; facilitate discussions among client groups when incidents occur.
  • Provide contractor safety orientations and complete contractor safety briefing checklists for contractors, service providers or consultants performing work for the Airport Authority or on Airport Authority premises
  • Support construction project managers by ensuring appropriate safety standards are met.
  • Participate in various stakeholder meetings as required, providing safety subject matter expertise.
  • Develop prequalification process to ensure contractors meet necessary legislative, insurance and WCB requirements
  • Complete ongoing site inspections to ensure adherence to Airport Authority safety expectations
  • Initiate the drafting of contractor safety policy in accordance to legislation and Authority standards.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Post-secondary education in safety or similar field: degree, diploma or certificate in occupational health and safety, or similar and/or professional equivalent experience.
  • Experience in contractor safety (e.g. job safety analysis; hazard identification/control; workplace inspections; accident investigations).
  • Strong written and presentation skills with the ability to write, develop and present training documentation, programs, policies and incident reports.
  • Ability to effectively build relationships and trust with multiple internal and external stakeholders in order to investigate incidents, guide corrective actions, and ensure a safe workplace.
  • Ability to proactively resolve problems and manage conflict / negotiate positively.
  • Role model a high level of professionalism, integrity and ethics.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License or equivalent, subject to a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Meet requirements of a safety-sensitive position
WHAT ELSE?
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or similar designation(s) in airport operations or contractor safety.
  • Five or more years’ experience managing a contractor safety programs and/or experience with legislative compliance under federal or provincial codes.
  • Working knowledge of construction related safety practices and guidelines, related to prime contractor responsibilities and roles.
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations that pertain to the storage, use and emergency response of hazardous materials in the workplace.
