This central position will be responsible for Safety and Compliance oversight in Air North’s Vancouver (YVR) base. The Safety and Compliance Coordinator will wear two hats, reporting to the Safety Manager for all matters related to safety management and investigation, and to the Special Projects Manager for all matters pertaining to operational auditing and compliance. In fulfilling these roles, the Coordinator will support local management by ensuring a superior level of safety and compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) among YVR staff.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Conducting frequent walk-throughs of all YVR worksites to look for and correct hazards and hazardous behaviors;
  • Acting as a safety ambassador and resource for all staff;
  • Conducting investigations into accidents, incidents, and hazards;
  • Developing Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) for investigations;
  • Participating in the YVR Workplace Health and Safety Committee (WHSC);
  • Conducting safety-related audits and providing support to the Quality Assurance Manager;
  • Liaising with the Safety Office and Human Resources for accurate and timely submission of all requisite forms in the event of an injury;
  • Assisting in the development of an Operational Quality Assurance program;
  • Conducting operational audits to assess employee compliance with SOPs, rules and regulations
  • Monitoring employee activities and providing feedback and corrections when non-compliance is observed;
  • Providing detailed compliance reports to YVR Operations Manager and Special Projects Manager;
  • Developing compliance corrective actions in conjunction with relevant Company staff
Qualifications/Conditions of Employment:
  • Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent;
  • Required to obtain a valid Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC);
  • Must be physically fit (able to stand/walk for extended periods of time);
  • Must be willing to undergo and maintain up-to-date training in Safety Investigator training, Ramp, Passenger Service, and/or Cargo, as required;
  • Minimum of one to three years of experience in aviation;
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or show proof of right to work in Canada;
  • Valid Class D/DA Airside Vehicle Operations Permit (AVOP) an asset;
  • Prior experience with Passenger Service, Ramp, and/or Cargo airline procedures an asset.

  • Analytical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to monitor and coordinate multiple moving pieces at the same time;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Good people skills, including tact and approachability;
  • Strong computer proficiency and aptitude with data entry software programs;
  • Excellent awareness of health & safety matters;
  • Proactive approach to identifying risks and issues and developing strategies to mitigate them;
  • Commitment to building positive working relationships with senior management team, colleagues,
  • service providers and other companies or industry associations;
  • Familiarity with restricted airport operations and/or Transport Canada aviation regulations;
  • Valid First Aid an asset.
