Our Flight Training Unit (FTU) is distinctive in that we are the only FTU in Canada to employ civilian flight instructors to provide instruction to military student pilots! However, we need more instructors. So, we developed a training program to fulfill our needs…. here’s how it works:


Stage One:
  • As the Instructor Trainee, you will be required to successfully obtain your Transport Canada (TC) Class IV Instructor Rating within approximately five months.
  • You will work full time onsite with our Class I instructional staff.
  • During this training, you will be compensated with a salary and you will not be required to pay for the instructor rating. However you will be required to sign a training bond with us.
Stage Two:
  • The second stage will commence with the TC Class IV Instructor providing training to civilian students as a means towards upgrading to a TC Class III Instructor rating.
  • This may include providing contracted services to other FTUs.
Stage Three:
  • The third stage will commence with military instructional training followed by full time employment as a Phase I Grob Instructor, providing student pilot training for the RCAF.

This training program is supported by state of the art software, stationary and full motion simulators, four fleets of aircraft, a dedicated aerodrome, and support facilities. Our aircraft include the G120A Grob for Phase I and II training, the King Air C-90B for Phase III Multi-Engine training and the Bell 206 Jet Ranger and the Bell 412 for Phase IV training. Duties and Responsibilities:
Class IV Instructor Trainee Duties:
  • Participate in the training program consisting of self-study, preparatory ground instruction preparation, ground school and flight training with TC Class I Flight Instructor in accordance (IAW) CARS
  • Successfully obtain a TC Class IV Instructor rating IAW the established FTU Training Course Outline (TCO), TC written exam and TC Class IV Flight Test
  • Be prepared to work outside of normal business hours when required
Class IV Instructor Duties:
  • Work closely with TC Class I Flight Instructor to ensure Private Pilot training is IAW with the CARS
  • Participate in weekly meetings and progress testing with the CFI
  • Instruct and monitor training towards the issuance of a Private Pilot License
  • Be prepared to work outside of normal business hours as required
Essential Qualifications:
  • Grade 12 graduate or equivalent
  • TC Class I Medical
  • TC Commercial Pilots License
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bilingual (English/French)
  • Minimum 200 hours Total Flight Time
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends
  • Must be prepared to travel when required
  • Must be able to successfully complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening and a Police Record Check conducted by RCMP
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a PSPC (Public Services and Procurement Canada) clearance
  • Knowledge of aviation/military terminology an asset
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Able to work productively in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Ability to maintain effective communication with staff, students and military colleagues
  • Strong interest to develop into a professional instructor
