The Team Lead, reporting to the Base Manager, is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the base. The incumbent is responsible for the management of all inbound and outbound freight; ensuring that aircraft are properly loaded and assisting with the planning and direction of all base operators during their shifts. The Team Lead will ensure the efficient use of staff and equipment. This role must also maintain high standards of safety, security, and customer service, and assist with the recruitment, training and development of facility personnel. Other duties involve overseeing and conducting regular equipment and facility maintenance.
Job Duties
- Provide direction and control for the base to ensure the efficient operation of all base activities.
- Directly oversee all base staff during shift.
- Ensure that all inbound and outbound freight is safety and efficiently handled through the base and that all loads are optimized for delivery and weight and properly secured.
- Set quality standards and ensure that these standards are maintained.
- Ensure appropriate staff levels to meet daily base requirements.
- Assist the Base Manager with recruitment, hiring, terminations and performance management activities.
- Ensure that drivers and terminal personnel adhere to established regulations and safety standards.
- Ensure the necessary levels of occupational health and safety standards.
- Help to manage base efficiency by analyzing operating costs, staff levels, equipment utilization, and fuel.
- Monitor base and base staff performance against goals to ensure that progress is being made, and that corrective action is taken if necessary.
- Ensure compliance with company standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete and on-time delivery.
- Assist with the development of policies, procedures and service systems to meet the goals of the base.
- Oversee and/or direct base equipment and facility maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain a clean and tidy terminal environment.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Previous experience in logistics, transportation or business preferred.
- Skilled in the use of computers.
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
Work Conditions
- Diverse shifts due to twenty four (24) hour operation.
- Flexible work schedules with overtime and extended hours required.
- Safety equipment required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
- Safety hazards associated with the base operation.
- Work both indoors and outdoors.
- Exposure to dust and dirty working conditions.
- Exposure to high levels of noise.
