Transportation Aviation Branch is responsible for the management,
development and maintenance of the Yukon Territory Aviation System, which
includes the Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport, three community
airports and twenty-five aerodromes.
Driven by a commitment to safety and security, efficient and effective
programming and progressive leadership, Transportation Aviation Branch is a
dedicated and professional team.
The Southern Airports Duty Manager is a key member of the
Transportation Aviation Branch team, and is primarily responsible for the day-to-day
safe operations at assigned Community Aerodrome Radio Stations, airports and
aerodromes in southern Yukon. Reporting to the Manager of Community Airports,
the Southern Airports Duty Manager is the primary point of contact with tenants
and users of these sites. The team
player in this position works closely with Transportation Aviation Branch
employees, Community Aerodrome Radio Station Observer Communicators, government
departments, regulators, carriers, aviation partners and community stakeholders
to ensure that the Yukon Aviation System is meeting regulatory requirements and
safety standards.

Essential Qualifications

Experience supervising, managing and directing staff and/or
contractors;
Experience critically reviewing, precisely writing and systematically
implementing operations manuals;
Experience conducting site inspections, identifying deficiencies,
providing recommendations and implementing solutions;
Experience collaborating with a wide audience of stakeholders and
general public members;
Certification as a Community Aerodrome Radio Station (CARS) Observer
Communicator or Flight Service Specialist is considered an asset;
Training or post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in subjects
such as Aviation Management, Business Administration or Safety Administration
is considered an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent
to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.

Conditions of Employment: Certification as a Community Aerodrome Radio
Station (CARS) Observer Communicator or Flight Service Specialist (within 6
months of hire), have and maintain a valid Yukon Class 5 or higher Driver’s
License, have and maintain a YG Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (within 1 month
of hire), Industry Canada Restricted Radio Operator Certificate with Aerodrome
Qualification (within 1 month of employment), Transport Canada Aerodrome
Security Clearance (within 8 months of hire)
Job Requirements: Overnight travel by road in various weather
conditions approximately one week per month.
