Located in one of Canada’s most beautiful areas, the Flight Department Manager role is based in Campbell River on Vancouver Island. This full-time permanent position offers an enviable lifestyle for an experienced member of the aviation industry.

The Flight Department Manager will oversee the organization and function of flight operations, safety, maintenance, crew scheduling, and training programs. The Aviation Department currently operates one King Air 250, one Airbus Helicopter Astar 350B2, and one Robinson R44 Helicopter.


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensuring conformity with Transport Canada regulations as well as Corporate policies and procedures
  • Maintain guidelines, policies and procedures for Aviation Services, including quality assurance standards and industry recognized best practices regarding aircraft operations and maintenance.
  • Monitor, assess and report on heliport and/or airport facilities as to their condition
  • Identify and establish appropriate requirements for aircraft equipment and maintenance above and beyond those required by regulation
  • Participate in, and contribute to aviation auditing efforts or risk assessment evaluations
  • Diligently monitor and control spending costs to align with the annual budget
  • Maintain currency in relevant new aviation technologies and best practices.
  • Research and evaluate aircraft equipment specific to program needs and make recommendations
  • Implement policy and procedural changes
  • Provide leadership and direction to subordinate employees.
  • The contents and application of the Company Operations Manual;
  • Ensuring that crew training is current and that crew members are aware of changes to regulations & standards
  • Liaison with the regulatory authority on all matters concerning flight operations, including any variations to the governing documents
  • Ensuring that crew scheduling complies with flight and duty time guidelines and regulations (when applicable), and all crew members are kept informed of any changes to the regulations and standards
  • Preparation of passenger itineraries, crew scheduling and operational reports.
REQUIREMENTS
  • 5 years of experience in the aviation industry, preferably in a management capacity
  • Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer would be considered an asset.
  • Holding or having held a Pilot’s license is not required.
  • Must have knowledge of Transport Canada Civil Aviation Regulations (and other regulations, circulars, advisories, etc.) related to flight department operations
  • Must have excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Must be an organized, self-motivated and results-oriented individual
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to provide direction and guidance
  • Ability to supervise and assess staff as well as train and motivate people
  • Decisive decision making abilities and sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Effective problem solver, influencer, able to make difficult decisions and deliver difficult messages, if necessary.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills
