Responsibilities include: completing daily, weekly and monthly inspections of airport equipment and infrastructure; participating in and contributing to the safety culture of the airport; general maintenance of the airfield, airport grounds and associated buildings; undertaking snow and ice control and removal operations; responding to airport emergencies; participating in the airport security programs; and resolving airport operational issues.
The Airport Technician:
- operates a variety of hand tools, light and heavy equipment and vehicles in day-to-day airport surface maintenance activities such as grass cutting, excavation, truck driving, line marking, FOD retrieval, inspections etc.
- carries out snow and ice control/removal activities for all airport operational surfaces
- performs an active maintenance program of facilities and equipment through scheduled inspection, routine work tasks and work projects
- verifies equipment ad facility operation and serviceability and makes reports for corrective action; takes action to make necessary adjustments or alignments to correct condition
- responds as instructed to airport emergencies and carries out pre-planned response activities
- ensures airport security physical measures are in place and well-maintained by active participation in the airport security program
- carries out special assignments or other duties as directed by the managing director from time to time and as required
- rapidly responds to and resolves operational issues as required
- ensures that all duties are successfully and safely carried out in a timely manner
- participates in safety meetings and makes safety procedures recommendations
Nature of Supervision: receives direct supervision from the Airport Managing Director, Superintendent Airport Operations or designate.
Position Specifications
- demonstrated commitment to safety with a history of identifying unsafe situations and proposing corrective actions
- experience in interpreting instructions and solving technical or operational problems
- understanding facilities and maintenance procedures and practices, and sound judgement in selecting the appropriate course of action
- demonstrated ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment
- knowledge of safety rules and regulations involved in general maintenance
- Valid Class 3 Driver License with Airbrake Endorsement is required, along with the ability to obtain a restricted radio operators license
- the successful applicant will be subject to the terms of the Criminal Records Review Act
