JOB OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Supervisor, Aviation Operations
Control Centre (OCC), The Flight Dispatcher OCC has joint responsibility with
the pilot in charge (PIC) for the safety and operational control of flights
under his/her guidance. This position analyses and evaluates metrological
information to determine potential hazards to safety of flight. They are also
responsible for economic, passenger services and operational control of day to
day flight operation (fuel loads, commissary uploads, ballast needs,
etc).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Ensure compliance with federal and local
regulations regarding Operations Control Center, flight operations, as well as
establish Suncor aviation operations policies.
• Implement goal, objectives,
policies and procedures for OCC
• Joint responsibility with the Pilot in
Charge (PIC) for the safety and operational control of flights under his/her
guidance.
• Authorize, regulate and control Suncor flights according to
government and company regulations to expedite and ensure safe flights
•
Respond to emergency calls, overdue aircraft
• Enforce policies and
procedures, emergency plans, SOP's, ASP, etc.
• Analyze and evaluate
metrological information to determine hazards to flight and select most
desirable and economic route of fight.
• Compute the amount of fuel for safe
completion of safe flight per aircraft, distance, maintenance, weather and
minimum fuel required by FOM and federal requirements.
• Prepare flight plans
containing info such as max takeoff and landing weight, weather, field
condition, NOTAMS, and other info as required to ensure a safe flight
•
Prepare and signs the dispatch release which is a legal document providing
authorization for the flight to depart
• Delay or cancel flight if unsafe
conditions threatens flight operations
• Maintain manuals/Emergency plans /
Flt ops/ OCC manual, etc.
• Support customer relations with lost luggage,
reservations and resolutions
• Monitor load factors on flights to ensure
effective utilization of seats
• Liaise with vendor agencies to ensure
booking accuracy and optimization
• Handle all aviation charter requirements,
itineraries, passenger manifests.
• Ensure compliance with SOPs, CARs and
Transport Canada regulations.
• Monthly stewardship and performance
reporting, provide aircraft and Aviation information for stewardship
reporting
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
• High school diploma, military
or airport operations Work experience. Related professional experience may be
substituted for education on a year for year basis.
• Experience in Aviation
operations is required (at least 5 years) Preference will be given to Licensed
Dispatchers
• Requires Industry Canada Radio Restricted Operator Certificate
- Aircraft
• Valid Aviation Dispatcher License 705 Type B Co-authority under
Transport Canada Rules is REQUIRED
• Must be able to pass a criminal
background check and obtain and maintain federally mandated security clearances
required to work at an airport
Skills and Knowledge:
• Advanced
Computer skills and use of IT products in a flight operations environment
•
Knowledge of airline and corporate flight operations
• Airport/ATC slot

• Knowledge of airport facilities, Security systems and baggage
systems
• Familiar with Transport Canada and CARs regulations (specifically
CBAA -604-705 on the requirements of flight following and dispatch. This
includes aircraft usage, aircrew duty (duty day and crewing requirements),
maintenance (dispatch limits for aircraft), and communication of weather to
crew.
• Familiar with Aircraft Scheduling and Ground operations
•
Knowledge of possible cross-team issues and inter-connectivity of the Aviation
teams (Pilots, Flight Attendants, Ground handling) (in order to diminish
daisy-chain issues)
• Strong analytical and trouble shooting skills
•
Ability to balance multiple assignments, changing priorities and meeting
multiple deadlines
• Effective time management

Located at the Suncor Aviation Centre in Calgary, AB
Required to work during early/late shifts and holidays
Work overtime
when required
Must Maintain the 705 Dispatchers License, meeting Transport
Canada rules and regulations
