The J.A. Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport, a not-for-profit organization operating a small regional Airport in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, is accepting applications from qualified individuals interested in working as part of the Airport Management Team as the Manager of Operations.
Reporting to, and working closely with, the Chief Executive Officer, the Manager of Operations is responsible for planning and managing the normal 24 hour day-to-day airport operations, for providing managerial and technical leadership to the maintenance staff, for development, implementation and monitoring of effective processes, policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of the airport operation including the Airport Safety Management System, the Airport Training Program and regulatory compliance. The Manager is required to carry a cell phone and be available 24/7 in the event of emergencies or to respond to operational issues. Time will be divided between the maintenance shop and the administration office.
This is a demanding position and the Manager of Operations must be a highly motivated and engaged team player who is dedicated, diligent, detail oriented, organized with an excellent work ethic and the ability to take direction and report while assuming complete responsibility for their position with accurate and timely completion of their work which will require a willingness to work extra hours.
The ideal candidate will possess: Post Secondary Education at the University or College level in Engineering or related area, A.A.E. certification, or extensive experience in Airport Operations.
Previous supervisory experience working in a unionized airport environment and knowledge of principles, practices and functions of airport operations and services including experience with Airport operations and maintenance including grounds, mobile equipment, mechanical, electrical and building maintenance, Safety Management Systems, Health & Safety, Canadian Aviation Regulations, Federal, Provincial and Municipal regulations and laws governing airport operations and safety etc;
Ability to manage multiple tasks, develop and implement work plans, schedules, training programs, policies and procedures, conduct and document safety related investigations, including completion of risk analysis, corrective action plans, documentation and updating manuals;
Excellent communication and leadership skills and ability to work effectively with the CEO, Manager of Facilities, the Manager of Finance and Administration and the Maintenance employees and to communicate with customers, suppliers, contractors and government regulators;
Excellent computer skills including the ability to manage, analyze and interpret electronic data, knowledge of computerized building and equipment maintenance systems and must demonstrate high proficiency with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint programs.
