The Vancouver Airport Authority has a permanent full-time Safety Advisor position available in the Human Resources Department. Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the successful candidate is a pro-active health and safety professional looking to use his or her training and auditing experience to enhance and continually improve the Airport Authority’s world class corporate health and safety management system.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing proactive and leading edge health and safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy environment, which includes conducting accident investigations, inspections, risk assessments and internal audits of current programs and practices
- Administering and delivering extensive health and safety training including confined space, fall protection as well as new employee orientations
- Developing and sustaining cooperative working relationships at all levels while overseeing the corporate Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Ergonomics, WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods programs, including the Hazardous Materials Management Program
- Managing multiple priorities, such as conducting extensive indoor environmental quality and noise dosimetry assessments and liaising with tenants and airlines on issues pertaining to indoor environmental quality issues
Key qualifications include:
- Degree in a health and safety related field and a CRSP, CIH or ROH designation (or suitable experience and education to attain one or all of the designations)
- Three to five years’ relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience conducting audits of health and safety programs and systems
- Strong understanding and technical expertise in industrial hygiene and exposure assessment principles and practices.
- Demonstrated experience with broad based occupational health and safety support in the identification, assessment and control of health and safety risks.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and provincial policies and regulations governing occupational health and safety
- Exceptional communication skills, especially presentation and evidence of strong relationship-building skills
- Team player
- Proven ability to use judgment and make sound decisions
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite
