The St. John’s International Airport Authority (SJIAA) is a private, not-for-profit corporation committed to creating an exceptional airport experience at Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier gateway. The airport is the second largest in Atlantic Canada and currently serves approximately 1.6 million passengers annually. Located just minutes from the St. John’s downtown core, growth is forecasted to reach 1.9 million passengers by 2020. With the SJIAA’s passenger traffic growth far outpacing the national average, today it is one of the busiest airports in Canada.

The Manager – Emergency Response and Planning will report to the Director, Operations and will be a valued member of the SJIAA’s Senior Leadership Team. Responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the airport’s Emergency Services and Emergency planning programs, the Manager will be instrumental in providing both managerial leadership and technical guidance to the supervisors (Fire Captains) and staff of the Emergency Response and Planning department. The Manager will establish consultative working relationships with key stakeholders and contribute technical insight and leadership expertise to the business planning process. Ensuring the achievement of Board mandated strategic objectives related to the Emergency Response and Planning functions, the Manager will help to maintain and improve the performance of SJIAA as a world class international airport.

As the ideal candidate, you have excellent communication skills, a demonstrated ability to effectively lead and motivate a diverse workforce, and a demonstrated ability to develop and manage departmental budgets. You bring at least five years experience in the management of emergency response and emergency planning activities, along with a Bachelor’s degree, Diploma or Certificate in Fire and Emergency Services or equivalent. You have extensive knowledge of regulations, policies and standards applicable to emergency response and planning. Experience working in a unionized environment will be considered an asset.
