The Organization The Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) is a community-based, non-share capital corporation that operates, manages, maintains and invests in the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and affiliate businesses. Operating on a multi-site property, the WAA is responsible for airport operations, security, facilities, parking, ground transportation and communications.
With an ever-expanding airport campus, WAA is a critical player in the development of one of Canada’s strategic transportation hubs.
The Opportunity Reporting to the Director, People and Culture, the HR Assistant is responsible for supporting the strategic and day to day business operations of the Human Resource department, as well as providing some overall organizational support in matters that pertain to our employees. This is an excellent role for someone who has completed education in Human Resource Management and is looking for an opportunity to develop their practical skills in the area and gaining exposure to the “ins and outs” of the employee lifecycle.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Support payroll processing by setting up new employees, entering timesheets, running and checking reports, and flagging unusual circumstances for further review. Assist in completing year end payroll activities;
- Assist with recruitment processes by reviewing resumes, setting up interviews, reference checks, and preparing new hire packages;
- Provide first day corporate new employee orientation, and arranging tours as requested;
- Manage work flow of training requests, registering employees for training programs, tracking training;
- Coordinate Security Clearances appointments;
- Assist in the call-back of Seasonal employees and coordinate their return date and activities;
- Coordinate and support employee events and wellness events;
- Prepare and send out corporate communications on matters relating to employees;
- Provide overall administrative and office support, including activities but not limited to: order employee lounge supplies, maintain schedules, complete and file paperwork, respond to HR general inquiries, and support reception functions as needed;
- Track completion and submissions of policy sign off, performance reviews, United Way donation forms and other ad hoc requests; and
- Other requests relating to human resource or overall corporate activities impacting our employees.
Selection Criteria include:
- Completion of a Post-Secondary Education in Business Administration, with a focus on Human Resources;
- Experience and/or practical exposure/education to payroll processing;
- Effective customer service and communication skills;
- Understanding and use of tact, discretion and confidentiality in all interactions;
- Results orientation with attention to detail;
- Problem solving and resourcefulness;
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of current Microsoft products;
- Ability to adapt quickly and use proprietary systems; and
- Team focused in a dynamic department with ability to work independently.
- Preference will be given to those demonstrating at least one (1) year of experience in a Human Resources role.
Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card.
