Vancouver Airport Authority has a full-time one year (April 2017) term opportunity for a Communications Specialist, Community Relations. Reporting to the Manager, Community Relations, the successful candidate will be a creative, proven community relations professional excited about forging stronger relationships with the communities served by Vancouver International Airport and passionate about developing authentic and mutually beneficial connections by leveraging our engagement and investment programs
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing the overall community relations program designed to raise the profile of YVR in the community and support the organization’s business objectives
- Managing and coordinating the community investment program in line with the corporation’s guidelines including acting as the main point of contact with the 80 plus organizations we partner with each year.
- Marketing our new community investment strategy including developing YVR’s inaugural community day
- Overseeing the delivery of 75 community events both onsite and offsite throughout year including supervision of 8 co-op students and overall design and execution of 2016 experiential marketing activation
- Creating new opportunities to engage employees in community events and our community investment program
- Supporting execution of YVR’s multi-year Master Plan consultation
- With support from the broader team, developing and executing communications plans to support each community event
- Providing backup assistance to the rest of the Communications team as needed, including media relations
Key qualifications include:
- A certificate or diploma in Communications, Community Relations, Community Consultation, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field; university degree in a related field is an asset
- Related work experience in community relations, event planning and communications
- Strong planning and execution skills
- Strong communication skills for interactions with the public, media and all levels of management
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask in a busy work environment
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; in particular, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Solid working knowledge of social media including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
- Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to deescalate when dealing with customer and community complaints
On occasion, you will be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
