Job Description
Canadian Base Operators Inc. (CBO) requires a Aeronautical Radio Operator at our Fort Mackay, Alberta, Suncor – Firebag Aerodrome, location. This position is permanent full-time. Fly in Fly out, two weeks in, two weeks out. Flights to and from the worksite from Edmonton and or Calgary, and meals and accomodations will be provided by the Company.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Site Supervisor, this position is responsible for the overall aviation support at the Suncor – Firebag, Aerodrome including emergency response, air/ground communications and runway condition reports in respect of the aerodrome and aviation weather observation/briefing.
This position is the first point of contact for the Aerodrome. The majority of the telephone calls are flight related. The position supports information for landings and departures of aircraft. Given the nature of the position, it attracts many duties and responsibilities that are too numerous to list.
Essential job functions
- Emergency communications and other related activities.
- Monitor/operate air-ground frequencies by giving the latest weather conditions, known air and ground traffic, Runway Surface Condition Reports and advise pilots of up-to-date weather information. Advising ramp staff of relayed information (i.e. de-icing etc.).
- Keeping appropriate radio logs, aircraft movement logs and strips, radio communications and file appropriately at month-end.
- Assist pilots with flight planning by advising Edmonton Centre of changes to flight plan/itinerary, closing flight plans, etc.
- Recording statistics re number of aircraft, passengers, baggage and de-icing information.
- Maintain a close and continuous weather watch.
- Administer PPR form (Prior Permission Request), update the Flight Schedule as required and distribute as required.
- Liaise with AXYS tech to ensure AWOS is delivering correct data.
- Secondary duties, as required, may include but not limited to: conducting environmental, safety and quality checks, general housekeeping in support of a healthy and safe workplace environment and taking proactive and corrective measures in these areas.
- Work on the ramp as a ramp agent when required, this includes, handling aircraft, loading luggage, operating groundside equipment, and other related duties.
Requirements & Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications & Training
- Aeronautical Radio Operators License/Certification - ROC-
- Minimum of a Alberta Class 5 Drivers Licence or Provincial Equivelant
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- One (1) years relevant experience in a facility of equal or larger size
- Completion of an Observer / Communicator Training Program through a recognized certifying institution would be an asset
- Basic Safety Orientation – Enform would be an asset
