Manager, Canadian De-icing Operations

Overview:
With the growth of our aircraft de-icing service business in Canada, we are pleased to provide an opportunity for a well-rounded and business-minded professional to join our team in the position of Manager of Canadian De-icing Operations. Reporting to the Integrated Deicing Services (IDS) Vice President of Operations, this position is directly responsible for proactive leadership, overall direction, administration and management of safety, operational and financial performance of each assigned deicing location as well as to provide on-going support and guidance to the respective operations. This includes safety and compliance, customer satisfaction, trucks and support equipment, operations policies and procedures, airport/airline operations service, sales and customer service, and development of strategic programs aligned with organizational and company goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

Analyze and report on trends affecting area of responsibility through location reports, information received, trade literature, and other sources that will assist in providing new ideas and solutions to progress the company forward;

Actively promote adherence to safety practices and programs and hold site employees accountable for leading safety and compliance in the workplace. Work in a safe manner and lead by example in the context of performing the functions of this position;

Participate and exchange ideas in meetings and conference calls as required, keeping the management team apprised of new developments. Report on the operations of the station, identify and bring to the forefront any operating issues, and be prepared to discuss successes and failures using these examples. Inform affected leadership on facility issues and new airport/airline policies;

Maintain cost controls and cost management, budgets and overall fiduciary responsibility with regard to tracking and measurement of operational goals. Develop corrective action plans when applicable;

Ensure each station of responsibility is focused on achieving optimal customer service, customer retention, and customer relationships are built on quality of service. Provide personal support through maintaining high standards of communication with all airline customers;

Work with station management to schedule regular meetings with local/airline manager and meet with airline representatives monthly. Respond immediately to internal and external customer inquiries and requests immediately. Comply with airline contracts and all operating permits ensuring that specifications are met;

Work with station management to coordinate station audits, provide information needed for airline de-icing reports, and handle all airline and government regulatory agencies audits and inquiries;

Promote consistent reinforcement and adherence to Integrated Deicing Services (IDS’) mission, values and purpose (MVP) to instill the core beliefs of IDS;

Foster an environment where operations, maintenance, sales and corporate staff work together for the success of the department and the company;

Responsible for staffing, training and development of employees including performance management professional development, team leadership and succession planning. Maximizes the value of employees through motivation, challenge, engagement, reward and collaboration of managers and employees in your Region;

Take proper measures to be sure that aircraft are de/anti-iced properly and airline/IDS manual requirements are met;

Communicate regularly on airline manual updates to provide information to employees and coordinate with Safety Director on investigations of any security issues, accident reviews and is a part of review and recommendation for safety measures taken for preventing further occurrences;

Take an active role through attendance of monthly and quarterly station and company safety meetings during the season;

Assure that locations are kept clean and safe through safety compliant methods as prescribed within safety and security procedures and programs. Audit and maintain that all station activities are conducted to guarantee the highest level of employee and equipment safety for protection of assets, sustaining regulatory compliance and support company mission, values and purpose;

Use critical/strategic thinking as a part of daily functions. Plan, implement and review current and future practices and procedures. Monitor and plan for future operations, changes, employees and employee growth;

Ensure that all hiring, promotion and termination of employees are conducted according to proper procedures, in compliance with all company policies;

Attend RFP, customer, and station visits in an effort to support the development of new de-icing stations in Canada.

Required Skills and Experience:
Post-secondary aviation management/business administration education or equivalent combination of education and experience;

Operations Management experience with background in safety and regulatory compliance;

Minimum of three years of experience in supervising a de-icing operation;

Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record;

Ability to acquire and continue to hold a Restricted Area Identify Card (RAIC) for airport security clearance;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to listen to others and value opinions, interpret information, promote and execute ideas, prepare reports and presentations, lead groups and provide foundation of open communication. Capable of interacting with all levels of internal and external stakeholders;

Strong customer service orientation to include increasing customer satisfaction, meeting customer expectations, solving customer problems, soliciting opinions and ideas from customers and responding effectively to the internal customer;

Strong project management skills to include coordination of team, identifying and assessing project criteria, implementation of key tasks, communication and monitoring of progress and results, and managing to project completion with final results and outcomes being reported.

Ability to mentor, coach and lead managers and staff for further growth and development. Direct and manage all aspects of operations, sales and customer service;

Must be a team player with ability to lead team in meeting goals, identifying areas of strength within a team, build and maintain work teams and relationships, and follow through to be sure that deadlines are met and success/failures are identified following each project;

Effective time management and organizational skills to manipulate multiple projects and conflicting deadlines at once;

Self-motivated to maintain up-to-date knowledge of de-icing business through learning opportunities, turning feedback into ways for improvement, seeking training that will enhance skills and staying current with industry training requirements;

Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
